Council representatives should be ‘specific’ when citing numbers

To the Editor,I’ve been waiting patiently for the latest chapter of Chicken-gate, the ongoing antics of our town council. It was surprising that Mayor [Jack] Baker showed a spark of pro-chicken by inadvertently tossing councilman [Gary] Naugle under the bus when he suggested that Naugle didn’t have to answer the question in regards to where he got his number of people that he talked to. Consequently, councilman Naugle’s answer (or non-answer) spoke volumes, when all he would have to have done was admit that he may have exaggerated and that he had talked to some people and some didn’t think chickens were a good idea. It’s a good idea when throwing numbers around to be specific — say 817 or maybe nine. Sadly that ship has sailed and now Naugle will wear the mantle of ogre.Number 16 of the restrictions for Tecumseh Small Farms, dated May, 1946, states “No structures shall be erected, altered, placed, or permitted to remain on any residential building plot other than one detached single-family dwelling not to exceed two and a half stories in height and a private garage for not more than two cars; provided, however, that occupants of residences may erect and maintain a barn and chicken house for storing farm tools and keeping cows, goats, pigeons, chickens or horses, but not hogs and pigs.” Now that those rights have been trampled on, we can now have pigs, but not chickens.
