Council took cowardly way out by not adopting chicken ordinance
To the Editor,Tecumseh City Council has shown yet again how little they wish to lead. Tonight, city council took the coward’s way out and abdicated their job to others. Tecumseh City Council had the option of adopting the petition language before it or send it to the ballot this November. They chose the latter. From the start I have said this issue isn’t about chickens. This issue is about liberty. Even though I am very confident of winning this in the ballot, that is not my problem.Let’s say for instance we are in the minority. This government is not one of mob or majoritarian rule, it is a system that protects the minority as well. That if the majority of any city or state wants to remove a persons liberty, the government steps in and keeps freedom intact. The council would do well to understand this and we as a community need to clarify it for them this November. Which leads me to my last point, it is my understanding that decision is going to cost the city of Tecumseh, upwards of ten thousand dollars to put this on the ballot. Failed leadership. Remember that Tecumseh come November. Remember how this council has treated all of us who want nothing more than to have four to six hens. Remember how they make up numbers to justify their vote. Remember that when asked for data they said they didn’t need to answer us. Don’t forget and vote not only for this proposal this November but vote this council out too.Tommy HawkinsTecumseh
