Croswell announces auditions for summer Broadway season

ADRIAN — The Croswell Opera House in downtown Adrian has scheduled auditions for its summer Broadway season.Auditions will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 21; 6-9 p.m. Sunday, March 22; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 28. If callbacks are needed, they will take place on Sunday, March 29.All auditioners will be asked to sing a vocal selection between 16 and 32 bars in length and should bring their own sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. Auditioners should also wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to dance. Anyone who has tap shoes should plan to bring them as well.The season includes a wide variety of male and female roles for both adults and children.The Croswell’s artistic team is committed to flexible, imaginative casting. Performers of all ethnicities and backgrounds are encouraged to participate. Reasonable accommodations will be made for anyone with special needs. The Croswell does not pay for participation in performances, but is committed to providing cast members with a professional-level experience in a friendly community theater environment.The 2015 summer season consists of these shows:“Into the Woods,” May 8-17. Directed by Eric Parker, with music direction by Dave Rains and choreography by Chloe Whiting-Stevenson. The show requires strong singers, both male and female, high school age and up. The original stage show is not the same as the 2014 movie adaptation and contains some adult themes.“Mary Poppins,” June 12-28. Directed by Julianne Dolan, with music direction by Butch Marshall and choreography by Sarah Nowak. The show requires strong singers and dancers; tap experience is helpful. The show includes mostly adult roles, to be played by actors of high school age and higher. However, there are a few roles for children, including Jane and Michael Banks, who will be between approximately six and 10 years of age. The actors playing Mary Poppins, Bert and Miss Andrew must be comfortable with heights.“Big Fish,” July 17-26. Directed by Betsy Lackey, with music direction by Jonathan Sills and choreography by Jessica Adams. The show requires strong singers and dancers; tap experience is helpful. The cast consists mainly of adult men and women, but there will also be one or two roles for a boy between the ages of six and 12.“Memphis,” Aug. 14-23. Directed and choreographed by Debra Calabrese, with music direction by Dave Rains. The show requires strong adult singers and dancers, both male and female. Because the show centers around race relations in the 1950s, there are roles that must be played by African-American actors and roles that must be played by Caucasian actors.The Croswell is at 129 E.
