Current owner of Products site facing court action
With $120,000 in unpaid taxes, according to Tecumseh’s assessor website, the City of Tecumseh is taking Tecumseh Food, Machinery and Engineering LLC., current owner of the former Tecumseh Products Company property, to court to hopefully force the owner to mow the grass. In his city manager’s report presented at the regular city council meeting Monday, Kevin Welch noted a citation regarding the tall grass has been issued to the owner. The property’s realtor, Howard Hanna Real Estate Services, requested the city mow the grass and place the invoice on the property taxes. “Since the taxes have not been paid for two years and the cost to mow the grass is likely to be $2,000 or more, it is unlikely the city would recover the cost unless the property transferred to new ownership,” Welch said in his report. In June 2014, Tecumseh Food and Machinery, LLC. owed $85,965.46 in unpaid taxes and $3,691.60 in unpaid utilities, which has since been paid. Howard Hanna Real Estate Services currently lists the property for sale at $510,000.
