D. Joyce (Scotty) Holdridge

D. Joyce (Scotty) Holdridge, aged 87, of Jackson, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 23, 2016. She died at home under the care of her loving family and Great Lakes Hospice (Jackson and Grand Rapids). She is survived by one daughter, Corrine (Renee); three grandchildren, Jill Dick, Justin (Kelly) Dick and Heidi Brodick; four great-grandchildren, Keitrin, Kalel, Gatlin and Blakely; numerous very special nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Although all of her extended family were very special to her, close to heart were Margaret and Chuck Williams; Stuart Wilson; Shannon and Steve Owsinski; Bill and Gayle Sayles, Shirley Keller, as well as her life-long friend, Doris Giffin.

Special thanks to Patricia Barrios, Sheryl Underwood and Julie Trudell of Great Lakes Hospice for their expertise, kindness and wonderful sense of humor.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph and father and mother, Rev. Oris and Jennie Scott.

Joyce was known as an encourager, cheerleader and industrious person, who faced life as a “Come long side” person! She enthusiastically supported those she cared about in efforts they were pursuing.  Together, Ralph and Joyce worked endless hours building a home from the ground up, never having tackled such a daunting task. Joyce was quietly a humble servant. She was an avid gardener, cultivating numerous picturesque gardens at her home(s) and sharing her love with others. Joyce loved to sing and play the piano. She had a passion for all kinds of music, travel and animals. She faced her life and illness with unending perseverance, rarely verbalizing the challenges she faced. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother always putting the needs of others first. Joyce spent her early years attending the Northern Conference of the Free Methodist Church with her Father and Mother.  She attended the Free Methodist Spring Arbor Junior College. She retired from Herrick Memorial Hospital (Promedica) after 30 years. She will be sadly missed by all.

There will be no visitation or funeral, but rather a Celebration of Life at the Cascades Manor per Joyce’s request.  As she said, “It was fun knowing you friends and family! See you later!”
