Delwin Axel Lindh

Delwin Axel Lindh, 90, of Lake Columbia, Brooklyn, (formally of Clinton), passed away Sunday Aug. 24, 2014. Del was born in Detroit to Charles and Mary (Wallenous) Lindh on November 14, 1923. He was proud of early Detroit and often talked of his youthful adventures there. He continued to be an avid supporter of all the Detroit sports teams. He went off with many of his generation to proudly join the Army during WWII. He served in the Asian Pacific theater at New Guinea, New Britain and Bismark Archipelago Luzon. Del received numerous decorations and citations. Del returned home from his time overseas and on what would later be referred to as one of the very best days of his life, he agreed to go on a blind date where he met the love of his life Julia Ann Sheehan. They were married on August 13, 1949 and spent 56 wonderful years together until her death in 2006. Together they raised a close-knit family with four children: Dr. Laurie (Steve) Barkway, Karl (Cathy) Lindh, Nancy (Dudley) Spade and Cindy (Thom) Marcum.Del received his GED and then took advantage of the GI bill and graduated from Lawrence Tech University. Upon his graduation, he was most proud of the fact that he literally walked across the street and secured his first job. He then began a long career in business, which led to him becoming the Director of Purchasing for Cadillac Gage. This position allowed him to travel the world. The one trip that he most treasured was when he and Julie traveled to Europe.Upon his retirement, Del and Julie moved to Lake Columbia where they could enjoy their family and friends. This time provided Del the opportunities to enjoy his hobbies and activities including hunting, fishing and golf. Del scored his one and only hole-in-one three years ago at the age of 87 at Ella Sharp Park. With his booming deep voice he always offered encouragement and advice to his grandchildren that were the other true love of his life: Chris (Samantha) Barkway, Kelly (Joel) Swett, Kyle (Andrea) Spade, Sarah (Josh) Kulchar, Katie (Ian) Callaway, Cassel Marcum and Annette Marcum. He was greatly blessed to know his three great-grandchildren: Mason Curtis, Asa Kulchar and Lydia Spade. Del will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.The family received friends at Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes on Tuesday, Aug. 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. Private services were held on Wednesday by Pastor Richard Mortimer.
