Dolores A. Johnson

Dolores A. Johnson, age 94, of Tecumseh, passed away October 11, 2012, at Drew's Place of Hillsdale. Dolores was born January 4, 1918 in Holloway, Michigan the daughter of Arthur and Gladys (Gripton) Gray.On May 6, 1939 she married Marvin R. Johnson at the First Baptist Church in Tecumseh and he preceded her in death. She was a 1936 graduate of Tecumseh High School and continued her education at Cleary College.Dolores worked as a secretary in Detroit where she met her husband. In December, 1945 they moved from the Detroit area to the farm in Macon Township where they operated a dairy farm for 46 years and where she resided until 2003. In 2003 she moved to a retirement center in Ohio and in 2007 returned to Michigan.In retirement, Marvin and Dolores wintered in Mission, Texas where they were active volunteers at the Border Mission.Dolores was a faithful member of the Tecumseh Friends (Riverbend) Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and a statistician. For many years she was a member of the community Extension Club.Dolores is survived by her children, Ronald (Jane) Johnson of Tecumseh and Marilyn (Tom) Rufner of Kimmell, Ind; grandchildren, Jeff (Alicia) Rufner of Columbia City, Ind., Sandee Black of Zionsville, Ind., Mark (Jennifer) Johnson of Fayetteville, W.Va., and Kristin (Chuck) Moore of Canton, Ohio and great grandchildren, Cameron Moore of Canton, Ohio and Madisen Burton of Zionsville, Ind.In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister in law, Merril and Ellen Gray and a daughter in law, Marjorie Johnson.Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh with Pastor Mike Dennis officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgeway Cemetery, Ridgeway.Visitation was from 1-3 p.m., prior to the service on Sunday at the funeral home.
