Donald H. Smith
Donald H. Smith, 84, died on Saturday, April 9, 2016 in Tecumseh of Parkinson’s disease.
He was born on April 9, 1932 in Detroit, Mich., the son of Donald H. and Myra T. Smith. In 1965 he married his wife, Dorothy and she survives. Don is also survived by his daughter, Julia E. Smith, PhD.; daughter-in-law, Amanda L. Smith; grandchildren, Jan-Michael, Zachary (Khadija), Adrianna, Anastasia and Azania; great-grandchildren, Khalie and Myla; and his sister, Lorna (Dudley) Place.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved son, Harris Smith.
Don was a graduate of the University of Michigan and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He spent the majority of his working years at Buick Motor Division in Flint, Mich. He was a Master Gardener and enjoyed many hours outdoors tending his garden. He also was a member of Osher Life-Long Learning Institute at the University of Michigan, enjoying many years of classes and lectures. Don was a loving husband and father, caring for his family was the most important thing in his life. He loved traveling and was able to travel extensively with his wife in retirement. Don was a good man and lived his life well.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorial contributions in honor of Don may be made to Hospice of Lenawee. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.handlerfuneralhomes.com.
