Dorothy J. Hamilton

Dorothy J. Hamilton, age 78, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2017 at home surrounded with love. She was born September 21, 1938 in Vandergrift, Pa., to Carl and Pearle (Conner) Work.  Dorothy married Thomas F. Hamilton on November 12, 1960 in Tecumseh. He preceded her in death on December 12, 1999. Dorothy graduated from Vandergrift, Pa., High School in 1956.

For Dorothy, it all starts with the love of family and friends. That special love and those relationships she built as a sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend were most cherished by her. From the early days with her sister and brothers, to hosting family dinners, to lunch with her close friends and travel with Ollie’s Group, creating memories and celebrating life was her passion. Time spent with her grandchildren and grand dogs, celebrating their accomplishments, brought a smile to her face each and every time. When her health turned, those same family and friends rallied with love and support to help achieve her wish to remain at home surrounded by lots of love; mission accomplished! While focusing on “being a mom,” she also worked locally at Faraday and RLP Fasteners in Tecumseh.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Becky Hamilton and Tom Hamilton both of Tecumseh; a brother, Bill (Nancy) Work of Adrian; her grandchildren, Jennifer Hamilton and Nic and Jessica Mirelez, all of Tecumseh; Alex and Melissa Mirelez and one great granddaughter, Morrigan all of Holly.

She is survived by her grand dogs, including her daily caregiver, Dugan. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins who hold a special place in her heart. In addition to her husband, Tom and her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Hildebrand and two brothers, Glen and Donald Work.

Visitation for Dorothy was held on Friday, April 21, 2017 at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. Dorothy’s life was celebrated on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Richard Mortimer officiating, with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.  Burial followed at Brookside Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tecumseh Firefighters Foundation and Hospice of Lenawee, who provided Dorothy with amazing care.
