Driver charged for OWI in death of two Tecumseh graduates
Travis Cunningham, 19, of Monroe, was taken into custody without incident on Sunday, Nov. 23, at approximately 3:30 p.m. on an arrest warrant issued by the Washtenaw County Prosecutors Office stemming from the car crash that occurred on July 3 that killed Tecumseh teens Dakota Gonzales and Curt Orlowski and injured Erin Lara. Cunningham is lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail on two counts of Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death and one count of Operating While Intoxicated after being arrested by Michigan State Troopers from the Brighton Post that were assisted at the scene by Ann Arbor Police Department. He was scheduled to be arraigned at 1 p.m. on Monday in Washtenaw County 14A District Court.Gonzales, Orlowski and Lara were returning home for the Fourth of July holiday when a Ford pickup truck driven by Cunningham crossed the median on US 23 near Michigan Ave. and collided with their car. Dakota and Orlowski were 2013 graduates from Tecumseh High School. Dakota attended Cornerstone University where he was studying exercise training to become a physical therapist. Orlowski was a student at Northwood University studying marketing and advertising. He had plans of joining the Navy.
