Earl Nelson Baldwin

OSCODA – Earl Nelson Baldwin, age 87, of Oscoda, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016 at the VA Medical Center in Ann Arbor.  He was born October 23, 1928 in Tecumseh, to Ned Nelson and Lura Mae (Ball) Baldwin.  On February 10, 1979 he married Mary Oralia Sanchez in Adrian and she survives. 

Earl was self-employed and he owned and operated Baldwin Hardware in Tecumseh.  He liked spending time outdoors hunting and fishing, and in earlier years, snow skiing.  Earl was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oscoda, Mich.  He enjoyed playing pool and was a member of the Eagles, the American Legion, VFW and Moose.  Earl was a veteran of WWII, having served in the Navy from 1946-1948 on the U.S.S. Charles R. Wade and the U.S.S. Meredith as a fireman apprentice, receiving the Victory Medal, WWII issued on May 4, 1948.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Eric Baldwin, and his children, Natalie Baldwin and Rudi Baldwin; a daughter, Lora Lee (Scott) Durkee of Tecumseh and their children, Erin (Durkee) Smith and Kendra (Durkee) Wegman; one step-son, Billy Sanchez; three step-daughters, Margo Alcorta, Donnie Sanchez and Kathy Sanchez; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Tom Baldwin, and sisters, Yolande (Baldwin) Williams and Linda (Baldwin) Knowles.

At Earl’s request cremation has taken place. Memorial services for Earl will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian.  The time of the service will be announced at a later date. 

Interment of cremains will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.andersonfuneralservices.com. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor or the Wounded Warrior Project.  Envelopes are available at Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian.
