Elizabeth Louise Wing

Elizabeth Louise Wing passed away on Friday, Oct. 7, 2016, at Otterbein Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Neighborhood, Monclova, Ohio. She was born on December 12, 1919, in Detroit, Mich., to George A. and Ernestine Leutheuser Schumm.

Elizabeth grew up in Somerset Center, Mich., and graduated from Addison High School, in Addison, Mich.  After high school, she earned her Certified Dental Assistant Certificate and worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Arthur Brown, and later as an office manager for Dr. Michael Dawson, an orthopedic surgeon, in Adrian, Mich.

Elizabeth, along with her father and mother, George and Ernestine, were founding members of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Tecumseh, Mich., and was an active member for 55 years. She also was active in helping others such as delivering meals on wheels, knitting chemo caps for St. Joseph Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich., knitting lap blankets for veterans, and newborn caps for her great-grandchildren. She loved to travel and her travels included two trips to Schneckenlohe, Germany, to visit relatives and learn more about from where her mother immigrated. Her German heritage was also reflected in her love of cooking and baking favorite German family dishes and desserts.

Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Joanne Doenges (Thomas) of Napoleon, Ohio; her daughter, Mary Bissey (John) of Chesapeake, Va.; her five grandchildren, Bill Doenges, Johanna Linder, Eric Bissey, John Charles Bissey and Rebecca Lynch; great-grandchildren, Tanner Doenges, Logan Doenges, Tori Anne Doenges, Niklas Bissey, Heidi Bissey, Aislinn Lynch and Aidan Lynch; her two sisters, Alice Goltz and Dorothy Osborn; sister-in-law, Marjorie Schumm; and many nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers George A. Schumm Jr., Frederich (Fritz) Schumm, Robert Henry Schumm and Albert Arden Schumm.

Funeral service for Elizabeth will be held on Friday, Oct. 14, 2016 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 108 Brown St., Tecumseh, Mich., at 1 p.m. with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Burial will be at Somerset Cemetery, Somerset, Mich.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Tecumseh, Mich., or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Otterbein Monclova Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Neighborhood, Monclova, Ohio, for their loving and unending care of Elizabeth; to Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their palliative care to both Elizabeth and the family and to the faithful members of Gloria Dei who continued to keep her in their prayers.
