Ferne Regina Holleran

Ferne Regina Holleran, age 91, of Tecumseh, passed away with family by her side under the care of Great Lakes Hospice. She was born on February 2, 1924, in Plankinton, S.D., to Gus and Evelyn (Vearier) Schultz. Ferne married John F. Holleran on January 25, 1947, and they shared 68 years together before John’s passing earlier this year. Ferne was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church of Ann Arbor and later St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. Ferne served for 35 years on the Council of Catholic Women and actively participated in the Altar Society at St. Elizabeth. She was also a member of Tecumseh VFW Auxiliary.She worked at the University of Michigan Eye Clinic and Manpower as a secretary for many years.Ferne was an avid golfer, bowler and card player. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.Ferne is survived by her daughter Kathie Fude of Belleville; sons Tom Holleran of Adrian, Patrick Holleran of Tecumseh, Jeffrey (Jodi Huber) Holleran of San Jose, Calif., Bill (Nancy) Holleran of Walbridge, Ohio, and Dave Holleran of Brooklyn, Mich.; three grandsons, eight granddaughters, five great-grandsons, six great-granddaughters and two great-great-grandsons.She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, John, two brothers and three sisters. Visitation for Ferne will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2015, at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Monday at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Daniel Wheeler as celebrant at 10 a.m. with visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Mich., Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at 11:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Ferne to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
