Florence Lucille Gilbert

Florence Lucille Gilbert, age 96, passed away on July 14, 2015, at Cambrian Assisted Living in Tecumseh. She was born on February 1, 1919, in Pentwater, Mich., to John and Clara (Matson) Petersen.On November 17, 1945, she married Orrie Gilbert and together they enjoyed 62 years together before his passing in 2007.Florence was a very kind and caring lady and it showed in her chosen career as a nurse. She was the first hire as a nurse at Tecumseh Fisher Body then continued her nursing at Lynwood Manor in Adrian.Florence was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tecumseh, serving as an Elder, Deacon and a Sunday school supervisor. She was one of the founders of The Little Garden Club of Tecumseh and the Junior Music Club. Florence played the violin in the Tecumseh Pops Orchestra and with a quartet at special events. She was a wonderful seamstress and enjoyed gardening.She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.Florence is survived by her daughter, Linda (Barry) Seidel of Tecumseh, son-in-law, Jerry Purdy, grandchildren, David (Jo) Seidel, Adrienne (Craig) Wood and John (Tyne) Purdy, great-grandchildren, Sylvia and Nia Wood, Evie and Leah Segal. She was preceded in death by her, parents, husband, Orrie, her daughter, Marcia Purdy, brother, Robert and sister Bernice Chase.There will be a Celebration of Florence’s Life at a later date. The family would like to thank the loving and caring staff at Cambrian Assisted Living and especially Hospice of Lenawee.
