Floris Effie Snyder

Floris Effie Snyder, 85, of Tecumseh, passed away Aug. 29, 2011. She was born May 7, 1926, in Tecumseh, the daughter of Charles W. and Florence Mary (Voorhees) Howe. On Sept. 1, 1946, she married John E. Snyder. Sadly he preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 1999.Floris was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church of Tecumseh. She was baptized, confirmed and married at the church. She was a former vocalist in the St. Andrew’s Choir and taught Sunday school for nearly 50 years. She was a 1944 graduate of Tecumseh High School and had attended Siena Heights College. She attended the Presbyterian Synod School at Alma College for several years in the 1960s and was a Christian Education staff instructor. Floris was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Tecumseh Post #34 and was a past member of their drill team. She was an alumnus of Wolverine Girl State and was local Girl State Chairwoman for a number of years. Floris was also a lifetime member of the Herrick Medical Center Auxiliary, serving as president and along with her daughter, managed the hospital gift shop for ten years. She also served as an escort for the Auxiliary. She was an avid member and supporter of the Republican party and served as chairwoman for the Tecumseh Township Election Board for over 20 years.Floris is survived by her son, John C. Snyder of Tecumseh; her daughter, Jan (James) Hunt of Tecumseh; her six grandchildren, Elizabeth (Nate) Pechaitis, Edward (Shimea) Hunt, James R. Hunt, C.P.O. Charles J. Snyder, Nancy Piotter, and Kathleen Muma; 11 great-grandchildren; and her cousin, Robert (Judy) Voorhees. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and her cousin, Enid Simpson.At her request, cremation has taken place. A graveside service will take place Friday, Sept. 2, at 11 a.m. at Brookside Cemetery, Tecumseh with the Rev. Robert Bidwell of the Maumee Valley Presbytery officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beautification Ministry of the First Presbyterian Church of Tecumseh or the Tecumseh American Legion Post #34.
