Fred Wayne Judson

Fred Wayne Judson, age 80, of Toledo, Ohio, formerly of Tecumseh, Mich. and Palm Coast, Fla., passed away March 14, 2017 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was born July 27, 1936, in Tecumseh, Mich., the son of Volney and Catherine Ruth (Lister) Judson. On November 9, 1991,  he married Julie Ann Klem in Toledo, Ohio.  She survives.

Fred was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving as a SeaBee, stationed on the Island of Guam. After the Navy, Fred returned home serving as a policeman in Ann Arbor and Tecumseh. He also worked 30 years for General Motors Corporation, Fisher Body Plant, Tecumseh. Fred's passions were being a private pilot, restoring classic sports cars, and his love of animals.

In addition to his wife Julie, Fred is survived by his children, Monaca (Phil) Heinz of Leesburg, Va.,  Simone Barth of Onsted, Ben (Deanna) Judson of Reading, Mich., René (Steve) Irwin of Birmingham, Ala.; Timothy (Sandy) Strayer of Oregon, Ohio, and Christie Whistler of Toledo, Ohio; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Leo Judson of Lasalle, Larry (Leslie) Smith of Onsted and Danny (Jackie) Hare of Tecumseh.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and step-father, Arthur Hare.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017 at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with Pastor Keith Sholl officiating. 

Military honors were performed by the United States Navy Funeral Honors Team.

Final resting will be at Raisin Presbyterian Cemetery, Holloway.

Visitation was also held Saturday, March 18, 2017 at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Toledo Humane Society.
