TECUMSEH — Improvements to Tecumseh’s new farmers market location on North Evans Street will begin this summer with the support of a $20,000 fundraising campaign held since May 2 through Patronicity.com.
As of Tuesday, donations exceeded the goal with a total of $25,776 raised. The Internet-based campaign will continue through June 10.
In addition, state funding through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation will match the first $20,000 raised.
With approximately $45,000, the funds will be used for: renovating the former lumber storage building for vendors; landscaping and planting of six maple trees; lighting; and constructing a sign.
Future improvements will include: paving a circle drive through the market; installation of a fence at the westend of the site; and installing access for water.
A second fundraiser to help select the color of the building resulted in the collection of $397 with red taking the popular vote.
For information about participating at the market as a vendor, call the Tecumseh Chamber of Commerce at 423.3740.
