Gerald Paul Bindus

Gerald Paul Bindus of Ann Arbor, Michigan died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was 82 years of age. Gerald was born on April 25, 1932 the son of Paul and Cecile Bindus in Detroit, Mich. He met and married Barbara Craig in November of 1953. He was a Korean War Veteran having served in the United States Air Force. Gerald was a longtime member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church of Ann Arbor and a retiree of Detroit Edison after 40 years of service. Together he and his wife owned and operated J-Bar Hobbies in Tecumseh, Mich., for over 32 years, a business that is still going strong today. He was an avid large airplane enthusiast and WWII history buff. He will be remembered by his family as the kindest, sweetest and most gentle man. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Bob. He leaves behind his wife; Barbara, children; Gary (Pat) Bindus, Cheryl (Steve) Pelletier, Dianne (Mike) LaBaere, Jeffrey (Kim) Bindus and Daniel (Cheryl) Bindus. Grandchildren; Mike and Monica Bindus, Matt, Adam and Steven Pelletier, Chris and Jeff LaBaere, and Caris and Audrey Bindus. A memorial mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 24, 2014 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 530 Elizabeth Street, Ann Arbor, the family will receive friends starting at 9 a.m. until time of service. Inurnment with military honors will take place on Monday, Oct. 27, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, MI 48442.
