Gertrude Emily Kapnick

Gertrude Emily Kapnick, age 102, of Britton, passed away August 30, 2012.Gertrude was born May 28, 1910 in Deerfield Township, the daughter of Herman and Hattie (Prielipp) Piotter. On June 2, 1931, she married Robert C. Kapnick in the North Blissfield Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on July 2, 1981.Gertrude was a lifelong resident of the Britton and Deerfield area. Working along side her husband, Robert, they started Kapnick Orchards in 1958.Being a devout Lutheran her entire life, in her early years she was a member of the North Blissfield Immanuel Lutheran Church. In her later years she attended St. Stephens Evangelical Lutheran Church. Adrian and Tecumseh Grace English Evangelical Lutheran Church, she was a member of the Ladies Aid Society. She was also a member of the Northwest Deerfield Extension Club.Gertrude is survived by a son, Arlan (Linda) Kapnick of Blissfield, grandchildren, Brenda (Michael) Velandra, Keith (Denise) Kapnick, Karen Kapnick, Sharon (Bruce) Shaffer, Bryan Amstutz, Todd (Linda) Amstutz, Julie (Lee) Crots, Kimberly Amstutz-Wild and David (Michelle) Kapnick; thirteen great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; sister, Velma Martinus; daughter in law, Janice Kapnick and son in law, Daniel Amstutz.She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Charles; daughter, Kay Amstutz, brothers, Arnold, Ernest and Leland Piotter and sisters, Helen Fox and Doris Martolock. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at Immanuel North Blissfield Lutheran Church with Pastor Gary Leking officiating. Burial followed in Deerfield Cemetery. Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace English Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tecumseh.
