Gratitude leads to support of Hospice through volunteerism

To the Editor,I find it interesting that National Hospice month falls in November, which is also known as the Month of Gratitude — how appropriate! It is gratitude that led me to become a volunteer at Hospice of Lenawee. As a result of two transformational experiences I had with Hospice Residential Facilities, one with my Aunt in Florida (2004) and the other with my mother in Michigan (2010), I was more than grateful for the loving care and dignity they each received during their last days — leaving me with a strong desire to “give back.”Each of these residences, like Hospice of Lenawee, provides physical comfort, emotional well being and spiritual peace — services that are the “norm,” not the exception, not only to loved ones on their last journey of this life but to their families as well by professional and dedicated personnel. Having such a facility that provides out-patient as well as “in-house” hospice care in Lenawee County is such a gift to our community — a gift for which I am most grateful.Barbara B. BlandenTecumseh
