Harvey G. Johnson

Harvey G. Johnson, age 80, of Brooklyn, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015. Harvey was born on May 26, 1935 in Fayette, Ohio, the son of Harvey and Ula Belle (Blakeman) Johnson. He married Jeane Conlin on January 2, 1959, at the Tipton Community Church and she survives. Harvey retired from Consumers Energy as Energy Management Consultant after 30 years of service and was the Consumers Power representative for the Jackson Area Home Builders Association. Harvey was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Jackson, and he was a board member of the Construction Trades at Jackson Career Center. Harvey played the trumpet and cornet as a member of the Jackson French Quarter Dixieland Band. Harvey was a former Jackson County Commissioner, former member of the Vandercook Lion Club, and former member of the Jackson Business Executives. While attending Defiance College, Harvey was a three-letter athlete: basketball, football and baseball. He also attended the Chicago Technical Institute. Harvey served in the U.S. Army with the 5th Army Band, playing at the White House during the Eisenhower administration. Besides his wife Jeane, Harvey is survived by his son Brian Johnson of Brooklyn. Harvey was preceded in death by his brother: Calvin Johnson, and his two sisters: Francis Beat and Breta Pendell. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Jackson. The Jackson French Quarter Dixieland Band will play at a reception at the church following his funeral service. Burial will be in Franklin Cemetery, Tipton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Harvey’s name may be directed to the Michigan Alzheimer’s Disease Center, at University of Michigan (www.alzheimers.-med.umich.edu), or to Hidden Lake Gardens.Visitation for Harvey was held on Sunday, Sept. 27, from 4-6 p.m. and on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Watson Funeral Chapel, Jackson. Visitation will also be held at the church on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m.
