Helen Marie Kuehn
Helen Marie Kuehn, age 91 of Tecumseh, passed away February 24, 2013 at Cambrian Assisted Living, under the care of Hospice of Lenawee. She was born March 7, 1921 in Blue River, Wis., to Van and Marie (Pipal) Pipal. In 1942 she married Howard Kuehn. He preceded her in death in August 2000, after 58 years of marriage.
Helen is survived by a daughter, Shirley (Kenneth) Ivan of Britton; a son in law Harry Doerr of Detroit; four grandchildren, Mark (Loretta) Doerr of Los Angeles, Calif., Brian (Cheryl) Doerr of Frisco, Texas, Nick Ivan of Britton, and Jennifer (Denver) Parker of Clayton; 11 great-grandchildren, Mary, Mitchell, Madeline, Mason, Mark, Matthew, and Maisie Doerr, and Garrett, Jay, Courtney, and Myra Parker. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a daughter Mary Jo Doerr.
Helen graduated from Union Free High School in Blue River, Wis., in 1938. In 1964, Howard’s job took them to Potterville, Mich. Helen began teaching fifth grade in the Waverly Schools. In 1968 they moved to Montrose, Mich. Helen taught fifth grade and Howard was the Superintendent there. Helen loved to read, exercise, and bake. She made wonderful bread and rolls, and especially, blueberry muffins and pies. Helen was a life member of Order of Eastern Star. God was at the center of her life and she loved going to church. After Howard’s passing in 2000, Helen moved to Tecumseh, Mich., to be near her daughter, Shirley. In 2008 she changed her residence to Cambrian Assisted Living in Tecumseh. She loved joining in all the activities and the special programs presented. Her favorite times were with the prayer group she co-founded and she loved exercise class.
The family would like to thank the loving staff at Cambrian Assisted Living and Hospice of Lenawee for all you did along the journey and for who you are. We will be forever grateful; yes, there are angels among us.
The family will receive friends Friday, March 1, 2013 from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes with Pastor John Kottke of Hospice of Lenawee officiating. Burial at Ridgeway cemetery will be at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
