In 1914, Henry Ford startled the world when he announced that Ford Motor Company would pay $5 for an eight-hour workday. The ramifications of this event changed Ford Motor Company, southeastern Michigan, our nation, and the world. John Staudenmaier—consultant for the Henry Ford documentary that aired in 2013 on PBS’s “American Experience”—will explain lesser-known aspects of this story and dispel some myths.
