Howard Douglas Schmittling

Howard Douglas Schmittling, age 84, passed away June 4, 2017, in Adrian, Mich. He was born to the late Dorothy Schmittling on September 13, 1932 in Wayne, Mich.

Howard served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he attended church at Clinton United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Clinton Rotary. He had a huge love for all cars especially Lincolns. Howard was a wonderful father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather.

Howard is survived by his wife, Flora “Penny” Phelps Schmittling, whom he married in Adrian on January 12, 2016; his children, Theresa Rogowski of Cary, N.C., Robert (Selene) Schmittling of Hillsborough, N.C., Joann (Michael) Steffens of Clinton, Mich., and Thomas (Suzanne) Schmittling of Dayton, Ohio; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Along with his mother he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Schmittling. 

A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 4, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Mich., with military honors performed by the U.S. Army.
