Indians’ boys third at D2 regional

TECUMSEH — Tecumseh’s varsity boys track team finished third in the Division 2 regionals on Friday, May 15, with 88.5 points behind Chelsea, (122) and Dearborn Divine Child (89.5). Adrian finished fourth (66).Tecumseh’s girls placed 12th with 14 points. Dearborn Divine Child (99.5) placed first, Carleton Airport second (89.25) and Chelsea third (71).Finishing all region and qualifying for the state finals with first and second place finishes for the boys were: Tecumseh’s 4x800-meter relay team of Jeff Case, Jimmy Terry, Noah Crots, and Tom Mammel, with a new school record time of 8:04.64; Mammel in the 800-meter with a time of 1:59.40; and Nick Schnur with a pole vault jump of 13’6”.Placing second for the Indians were Tecumseh’s: Mitch Meger (100-meter, 11.47, 200-meter, 23.08; Gabe Lopez, 300-meter hurdles, 40.39; Jeff Case (800-meter, 1:59.99); and the 4x400-meter relay team of Meger, Nate Coffin, Mammel, and Gabe Lopez (3:29.3).Finishing as all region were Tecumseh’s: 4x200-meter relay team (3rd place, Meger, Josh McKenzie, Jimmy Terry, and Lopez, 1:33.67); Josh McKenzie (5th place, long jump, 19’9.25”); Terry (6th place tie, high jump, 5’7”); Chris Hawkins (7th place, shot put, 44’7.5”); Lopez (7th place, 110-meter hurdles, 16.98); Jack Lacasse (7th place, 3,200-meter, 10:26.1); and Payton Norkey (8th place, 110-meter hurdles, 17.97).“I cannot begin to express how happy I am with the way that the boys performed tonight,” said Tecumseh head coach Eddy Foley. “Everyone performed about as good as they could today. Lots of PRs [personal records] and a school record. Finishing runners up to the regional championship is pretty good as well. I am excited to take the nine boys that qualified to states to see how well we stack up against the best in the state.” Tecumseh’s boys compete next at the Lenawee County Championships at Onsted on May 26, followed by the State Meet on May 30.For the girls, Christina Saywer finished second in 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:27.18.Tecumseh’s Diamond Tirado finished sixth in disc with a throw of 31’6.5”.The Indians’ 4x100 Relay team of Chloe Stitt, Hailey Whitehead, Harley Whitehead and Victoria Tinsley finished seventh with a time of 53.69 while the 4x400 relay team of Tahlor Clark, Kelsey Hammer, Whitehead and Stitt placed eighth with a time of 4:35.26.
