Indians break team beam record in win against Adrian

A school beam record was broken by Tecumseh High School’s varsity gymnastics team at Adrian on Wednesday, Dec. 10, as the Indians’ won their first South Central Gymnastics League meet of the season. Tecumseh posted a season high 128.975 to Adrian’s 72.225, taking the top four places In every event as well as the all-around. The Indians broke the school’s team beam record with a combined score of 33.25. The previous record of 33.15 was set in 2006.“There were a lot of emotions tonight, both high and low, but these girls really pulled it together and showed how strong of a team they are,” said Tecumseh coach Jen Posten. “Our upperclassmen stayed strong and provided the experience and consistency we needed, which allowed our freshmen to relax and that paid off.”Freshman Madison Harkness placed first in the all-around with a score of 33.725. She was second on vault (8.575), first on bars (7.6), first on beam (8.65) and first on floor (8.9).Freshman Carlee Swan was first on vault (8.8), second on beam (8.6), second on floor (8.525) and second in the all-around (32.125) for the Indians. Tecumseh junior Kelsey Bogrow was second on bars (7.45), third on beam (8.15), third on floor (8.2) and third in the all-around (31.875).Junior Bailie Posten was third on vault (8.2), third on bars (6.725), and fourth in the all-around (30.525) for Tecumseh.Tecumseh sophomore Brianna Price finished fourth on vault (8.15), fourth on beam (7.85) and fourth on floor (8.125) while junior Kassidy Connors placed fourth on bars (6.475). Tecumseh’s freshman B-team competed as well and posted numerous regional qualifying scores. Participating were freshmen Brooke Colf (7.95 vault), Talia Rebottaro (7.975 vault), Gabi Ringman (6.9 bars), and Alaina Carr (8.275 vault, 6.85 bars, 8.05 beam). In its opening season meet on Wednesday, Dec. 3, Tecumseh split at Saline in a tri-meet that included Adrian. The Indians recorded a regional qualifying score of 126.55, losing to Saline and defeating Adrian. Saline totaled 130.525 while the Maples were unable to score as a team without a complete lineup.“I am very pleased with how we performed at our first official meet,” coach Poston said. “The girls stayed focused and relaxed and went into the meet fully prepared.”Harkness placed second on beam for Tecumseh with a score of 8.325 and also placed second on floor with a total of 8.65. Freshman Morgan Cadmus placed third on vault for the Indians with a score of 8.3 while Bogrow placed third on bars with a score of 7.75.Bailie Posten placed third on floor for Tecumseh with a total of 8.4.All-around placing wasn’t calculated by Saline.The Indians compete next at Saline on Tuesday, Dec. 16, for a quad meet with the hosting Hornets, Coldwater and Jackson Lumen Christi.
