Indians place 3rd/4th, 4th/3rd in Chelsea

Tecumseh’s varsity cross-country teams competed at the Chelsea Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 27, with two divisions each for both the boys and girls.The meet featured a freshmen/sophomore race and a junior/senior race, which are scored separately. The top 25 placers in each race received medals.Tecumseh’s girls placed third in the 9/10 race and fourth in the 11/12 race.Chelsea placed first in both divisions.In the 9/10 race, Tecumseh was led by Christina Sawyer’s first place time of 19:43.Rounding out the Indians medalists were Kristina Ziemer (8th, 21:09); Katie Weatherford (43rd, 26:18), Emily Alderman (44th, 26:38), Kendall Brown (48th, 28:47) and Zoe Meyers (51st, 29:30).In the 11/12 race the Indians were led by Jessica Tebbetts (6th, 21:40), Elyssa Hedrick (16th, 24:07) and Kristin Randolph (34th, 26:25).“Our stand-out performance today were from Christina Sawyer as she finished first for the fifth time this season,” said Tecumseh coach Jill Stockford. “She ran the entire race out front and finished 34 seconds ahead of the second runner. “Kristina Ziemer ran a personal-best for the second consecutive week and is also looking very strong. It won’t be long before she breaks 21:00. Elyssa Hedrick continues to improve with another season-best today by 46 seconds. Katie Weatherford is improving at a remarkable rate and had a nine second PR [personal best record] today.”Tecumseh’s boys placed fourth in the 9/10 race and third in the 11/12 race. Chelsea placed first in both divisions.Receiving Medals for the 9/10 race for Tecumseh were Jack Lacasse (8th, 18:18), Nick Rutledge (15th, 19:14), Ian Thomsen (16th, 19:18), Lance Wood (21st, 19:35, PR) and Ray Vigo (23rd, 19:38, PR).Receiving Medals for Tecumseh in the 11/12 race were Andrew Waite (7th, 17:19, PR), Jarred Waite (10th, 17:42, PR), Jeff Case (14th, 17:57, PR) and Gabe Lopez (20th, 18:49, season best).“We had nine boys run all time PR’s today and one season best performance. I could not be more pleased with the effort that was shown by all,” said Tecumseh coach Eddy Foley. “It was also nice to beat Williamston in both races, who has been ranked ahead of us in the state rankings all year.“I am very happy for my senior twin brothers Andrew and Jarred Waite, both of which had all time PRs today. Anytime a senior posts a PR, it’s a big deal and for both of them to do it was really special. Jeff Case also had a great race finally making his way into the 17s. We are shaping up nicely at the right time of the year.”Tecumseh races next on Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Hudson Booster Invitational in Hudson.
