Indians win Early Bird Invitational

Six of Tecumseh’s varsity girls cross country runners medaled to help the Indians place first at Blissfield’s Early Bird Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at Gerber Park.Tecumseh’s girls scored 57 points to place first while Blissfield followed with a score of 95.“The girls have been running hard for the past few practices so I was impressed on how well they ran today,” said Tecumseh coach Jill Stockford. “Blissfield always runs tough on their home course and we knew we would have to compete well to match them.”Dundee finished third (109); Onsted, fourth (131); Britton-Deerfield, fifth (143) and Adrian, sixth (147).Jessica Tebbetts led Tecumseh with a second place time of 21:14 while teammate Katie Kasper placed third in 21:15.Also scoring points for Tecumseh were Hannah Weatherford (12th, 22:29); Kendra Randolph (14th, 22:34); Zoe Melnyk (26th, 23:10, PR); Kelsey Hammer (29th, 23:24); Nicole Lipnichan (32nd, 23:35); Bailie Posten (40th, 24:00); Kassidy Connors (49th, 24:51); Elyssa Hedrick (59th, 25:39); Nicole Cote (69th, 26:21, PR); Payton Hertel (70th, 26:26); Abby Janeczek (86th, 27:52) and Alexi Schnur (87th, 28:15).Tecumseh’s boys (111) placed fourth behind Erie Mason (55), Adrian (63) and Dundee (85).Tecumseh leaders included Anthony Lesko (10th, 18:18): Max Miller (16th, 18:55); Matt Maki (17th, 18:55); Gabe Lopez (19:40) and Will Collings (20:12).I am once again pleased with how the team ran without two of our top five runners out with injury,” said Tecumseh coach Eddy Foley.Tecumseh’s girls (66) placed second behind Grosse Ile (61) at the Monroe Jefferson Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 22, at Sterling State Park.Kasper led Tecumseh with a third place time of 20:43 while Tebbetts was fourth in 20:44.Tecumseh’s boys (128) placed sixth at the invite while Riverview (48) placed first.Tecumseh’s top runners included Lesko (19th, 18:22); Miller (21st, 18:27); Drake Vandenberg (27th, 18:42); Maki (29th, 18:50); Collings (32nd, 19:03); Lopez (37th, 19:16) and Alex Janeczek (38th, 19:23).
