Inez J. Harger, 71, a loving mother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend passed away on April 16, 2015, in Kalkaska. Inez was a long-time resident of Rapid City.Born on January 11, 1944 in Tecumseh, she was the daughter of the late Mervyn and Irene (Crawford) Boltz. Inez graduated Tecumseh High School in 1961. She was outgoing and involved in her community and school activities; Vice-President of her senior class, President of the Future Nurses Club, a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council representative, and a member of the THS Annual Staff and Chorus. She received the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Award in her senior year for her outstanding citizenship and leadership qualities. She continued her education at Michigan State until she married Walter Harger on September 22, 1962 in Rapid City. Together they raised their family in the area.Inez and Walt worked together most of their lives in the businesses that they started, their restaurant, the Torch River Pancake House, followed by Walt’s real estate business. She was active in the community for many years serving on the township zoning board, working on election boards, volunteering with the Red Cross and teaching hand quilting through community ed.Whether she was cooking/serving delicious pancakes, helping a client with their bookkeeping/paperwork or sharing her knowledge with others; she is remembered for her genuine smile, kindness and sense of humor. And she recently reminded us of the many things she enjoyed throughout her life; “My husband Walt of 43 years, my children (including Shirley), relatives, and friends. I could be pleased by and enjoy some of the simpler things in my life — watching the fox pups out back or an Eagle soar overhead.”Surviving Inez are, her daughter Carol Harger of Maryland; son, Todd Harger and wife Shirley of Rapid City; sisters, Jan (Boltz) Creswell of Tecumseh, Merene (Boltz) Conkey and husband Arch of Grand Rapids; brother Mel Boltz and wife Ann of Coldwater and many nieces, nephews and cousins.Inez was preceded in death by her husband Walt.A celebration of her life will be held later this summer when the birds are singing and the flowers are in bloom (date to be determined).Arrangements were made by Wolfe-O’Neill Funeral Home.
