Irene Margaret Baran

Irene Margaret Baran, age 93 of Tecumseh, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 8, 2014 in her home surrounded by family. She was born on June 5, 1920 in Delray, Detroit, Mich., to Stephen and Anna Kiraly. She was married to the late John J. Baran. Irene was an active member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church since 1969, including the Altar Society, Guadalupe Society, and choir. She was also a member of the HMH Auxiliary Club, Tecumseh Chorus, Tecumseh Service Club, and was a past recipient of the Volunteer of the Year award along with her husband. In 1955, Irene became a Registered Medical Assistant and worked the Emergency Room at Lynn Hospital in Lincoln Park, Mich., and was later a teaching assistant for special needs children. She enjoyed singing, music, sewing and ceramics. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband, playing with her grandchildren, and taking communion to the sick. Irene was the mother of five children: Joseph (Judy) Barta, John (Karen) Barta, Peggy Ann Barta, Harmon “Rick” (Penny Starr) Baran, and James (Anita) Baran. She has 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and is also survived by her loving sister Rosemarie Bargero. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, two brothers, and two sons. Irene will be greatly missed and forever loved, especially by her nieces and nephews.A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Tecumseh with Rev. Fr. Daniel Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery.Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh and 4-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Tecumseh. A Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the church.In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Shriner’s Hospital, Knights of Columbus, Wounded Warrior Project and Hospice of Lenawee.
