Jack Ralph Pumala

Jack Ralph Pumala, age 92, passed away at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor on July 1, 2015. He was born on December 22, 1922, in Ironwood, Mich., to Matt and Emelia (Pahkamaki) Pumala. On March 28, 1944, Jack married the love of his life, Irene Samuelson in Kanas and they shared 61 years together.Jack served in the United States Air Force during WWII and was a member of the VFW. He worked for General Motors/AC Spark Plug in Flint and Detroit as Manager of Service Training. He maintained his interest in the automotive industry and loved to repair cars. At retirement, he loved to golf and was a member of the Eagle Bluff Golf course. His great hobby was to maintain and work on the family homestead farm. He attended the Apostolic Lutheran Church of Ironwood, Mich.Jack is survived by his daughter, Marja (Nasser), and grandson, Sami Jallad of Ann Arbor, Mich. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Irene in 2005, five sisters, Pearl Pertile, Jean Zarimba, Hilma Dudra, Mary Smith, Martha Cirilli, and two brothers, Matt and Carl Pumala.Special thank you to the staff at Cambrian Assisted Living in Tecumseh, Mich., where he spent his last years.Memorial service will be held on July 10, 2015, at Ketola-Burla Funeral Home, Ironwood, Mich., at 11 a.m. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood, Mich.
