Jacob Loren Kelley

Jacob Loren Kelley passed away August 23, 2017 in Los Angeles, Calif.

He is survived by his parents, Robert Loren Kelley and Jill Elaine (Jackson) Kelley of Cleveland, Tenn., his brother, Joshua Jackson of Hillsdale, Mich., and sisters Grace Kelley of New York City and Marlene Kelley of Rome, Ga.

Jacob is the grandson of Dr. Asa Kelley and Marlene Kelley (deceased) of Addison, Mich., and James Jackson (deceased) and Elaine Jackson of Munger, Mich., and a member of a large extended family of uncles, aunts and cousins.

Jacob was born on May 8, 1993 in Jackson, Mich. He graduated from Tecumseh High School in 2011 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 2014. He was a student at the University of Southern California School, where he was pursuing a Master of  Science degree in medical physiology. Jacob challenged us to evaluate life from a nonconventional perspective. He was a seeker of truth and knowledge. He pushed himself to conquer limitations of body, mind and spirit. Jake was an Eagle Scout and earned academic honors. He rode across the country on the TransAmerica Bicycle Trail, a bicycling adventure that took him from the Pacific Ocean near Astoria, Ore., to the Atlantic Ocean near Yorktown, Va. Jacob will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017 beginning at 2 p.m. at the Brick Walker Tavern, 11705 US-12 in Brooklyn, Mich. The family will receive friends until 6 p.m.

In true Jacob spirit, guests are asked not to spend money on food or flowers. Those who wish to honor his memory may consider making a donation to Tecumseh Boy Scout Troop 632, the music education program at Tecumseh Public Schools, or the Adventure Cycling Association.

A memorial website has been created in honor of Jake’s life: http://memorialwebsites.legacy.com/jacobkelley/homepage.aspx.
