James L. “Jim” Furgason

Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born Sept. 18, 1956, in Tecumseh to Gaylon D. and Clara E. (Fick) Furgason. He graduated from Britton High School in 1974. He spent 30 years working in manufacturing, at Peerless Gear in Clinton, Garden State Tanning in Adrian and ididit Inc., in Tecumseh. He enjoyed watching sports on TV and was a fan of the Detroit Tigers, Red Wings, Michigan Wolverines and Pittsburgh Steelers.

On July 27, 1979, he married Marjorie Jean Miller at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Britton. During their married life, Jim and Marge enjoyed spending summer weekends camping, their favorite places being Frankenmuth, Cedar Point and Mackinaw City. He especially loved their “kids” and traveling companions, basset hounds Max (1990-2004), Baxter and Harvey. His favorite camping activity was sitting outside during the morning hours with the dogs and his coffee cup.

In addition to Marge, Baxter and Harvey, he is survived by his mother, Clara Furgason of Tecumseh; brother, Roger (Mary) Furgason of Britton; sister, Sandra (Jim) DeBerry of Orange City, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Melodie Marion of Evansville, Ind.; and Melinda (Scott) Sears of Bowling Green, Ky.; brother-in-law, Joseph Bartenslager of Tecumseh; nieces and nephews, Jennifer (Daniel) Rhoades, Nancy (Joseph) Downard, Sarah (Dean) Berthiaume, Emily Sears, Jeffrey (Danielle) Bartenslager and Katelynne (Ron) Edge; and six great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gaylon Furgason; brother-in-law David Marion and sister-in-law Marilyn Bartenslager.

Cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life service was held on Sunday, May 8, at Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes.
