James R. Knierim

James R. Knierim, age 69, of Tecumseh died Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, at home surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born August 14, 1946, in Adrian to Robert and Alice (Gerst) Knierim. He served in the Military Police in Furth, Germany, where he met his wife, Helene. Jim served 33 years on the Tecumseh Police Department as a patrolman, sergeant and retired as the Chief of Police. Jim and his wife, Helene, had co-owned the Tecumseh Dance Workshop for many years. He loved to go to auctions with his family, but he also could be found as the auctioneer at area auctions. To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he will always be cherished as their “Poppy.” Jim is also survived by three daughters, Annamia Rumley of Clinton, Bethany (Patrick) Russell of Tecumseh, and Stephanie (Timothy Forth) Knierim of Palmyra; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard (Tina) Knierim of Florida. Jim has donated his body to the University of Michigan Medical School. There will be no public visitation or services. There will be a Celebration of Life scheduled at a later date. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.andersonfuneralservices.com. Memorial contributions may be made to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit or the Lenawee Mission in Adrian. Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson Funeral Home, Tecumseh.
