Jerry T. Tomecek
Jerry T. Tomecek, age 82, of Tecumseh passed away at home with his loving family at his side under the gentle care of Hospice of Lenawee. He was born February 3, 1931 in Blissfield the son of Frank and Francis (Zak) Tomecek.
He married Donna Hooten on July 28, 1954. Sadly, she preceded him in death on August 12, 1990. Together, they had three children and they survive; Teri Dam of Kalamazoo, Mich.; Joni (Shelby) Smith of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; and Scott (Dayna) Tomecek of Naples, Fla. Also surviving are his grandchildren Michelle and Jaymie Dam; Alec and Ryan Smith; and Grant and Devyn Tomecek.
Jerry then married Donna Schiller on August 31, 1996. He is survived by Donna and her children Susan (Wayland) Duerschmidt of Montana; Cynthia Underwood of North Carolina; Mark Schiller of Tecumseh; Greg Schiller of Vacaville, Calif. Also surviving are grandchildren Jill, Sara, and Robert Bednarcik; Carrie Guess; Amanda and Derek Underwood; Steven, Scott, Samantha and Sean Schiller; and five great grandchildren.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Donna, and his son-in-law Stephen.
Jerry worked as a Supervisor for Tecumseh Products Company for 44 years before retiring. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Jerry played basketball and baseball while attending high school in Britton and attended Adrian College. He was an avid golfer and an avid Detroit sports fan. After his retirement, Jerry enjoyed traveling. His greatest joy was his family and the time he spent with them. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation was Sunday, Nov. 10, from 3–7 p.m. at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. The funeral service was Monday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Tecumseh with Pastor Gordy Peterson officiating. Visitation was also at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
