Joan R. Carlson

Joan R. Carlson, 89, of Rouse Ave., Youngsville, Pa., formerly of Corry, Pa., died on Friday, April 21, 2017 at the Rouse Home, Youngsville, Pa.

Joan was born August 21, 1927, in Tionesta, Pa., a daughter of the late Rev. Roy E. and Grace Hardison Decker.

Joan received her bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1949, and her master’s degree in elementary education in 1951, both from Allegheny College. She was an elementary school teacher in the Jackson Public School system in Jackson, Mich. She retired in 1982, following 31 years of service. Joan was a member of the McCray United Methodist Church, Corry, Pa.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death in 1993 by her husband Gerald C. Carlson, whom she married in 1963, in Tecumseh, Mich.; and four brothers, James, Jack, Harold and Mendal Decker.

Joan is survived by a daughter, Grace A. Carlson of San Francisco, Calif.; a niece Kathy Shafer and her husband Dave of Waterford, Pa., and a cousin Larry Burns and his wife Mary of Sheffield, Pa.

Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

No calling hours will be observed.

Funeral service will be held privately by family.

Burial will be in McCray Cemetery, Corry, Pa.
