John J. Hoag

John J. Hoag, of Ann Arbor, Mich., passed away at the age of 88 on December 10, 2013 in Ann Arbor, Mich. He was born February 7, 1925 to the late John and Vera Hoag in Adrian, Mich. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Geraldine Pelham, and Margaret Ann Collier. In 1947 John married Rebecca (Betty) Azus, and their son, John G. (Carol) survives. Rebecca (Betty) preceded John in death in 1955. In 1958, John married his wife of 55 years, Bonita Bunge of Dundee, Mich., and she survives. John is also survived by his two daughters, Sharon Boyd (John) and Janelle Renner (Jim), five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. John is a veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. He fought at both Okinawa and Iwo Jima. He retired in 1990 from Blissfield Manufacturing Co. John was a great supporter of the Boy Scouts, and was very proud that his son, grandson, and great grandson all achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Spending time with family was the most important aspect of John’s life. Arrangements were made by Nie Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, and burial has taken place at Lenawee Hills Memorial Park in Adrian, Mich. Memorial donations can be made to the St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor Cancer Center of the Huron Valley Humane Society.
