Jonathan G. “Jay” Schmidt
Jonathan G. “Jay” Schmidt, age 27 of Tecumseh passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 2, 2013. He was born June 21, 1985 in Ann Arbor the son of Jacqueline (Saxton) and Glenn Schmidt.
Jay attended Tecumseh High School and received his GED from Washtenaw Community College. Jay was currently a student at Jackson Community College. He was a lifelong learner and enjoyed having in depth discussions on politics. Jay held a Black Belt in Taekwondo. He especially enjoyed science, astrology, working on the computer, and watching television. He was a fan of Star Trek and rap music, particularly the artist 2pac.
Jay is survived by his parents Jackie and Glenn Schmidt; his sister Tonya (Glenn) Rowe of Tecumseh; two nephews Aaron Schmidt and Adam Schmidt-Davis; his step grandfather, Rick Miles of Sun City, Ariz; and several aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jack C. and Doris Saxton and Lola Miles; paternal grandparents Herman and Alma Schmidt; Aunt Sharon Schmidt; his uncles Danne Saxton and David Saxton; and one cousin Kenny Schmidt.
Visitation for Jay was at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Home on Sunday, May 5 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 6, 2013 at the Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Hawkins of NewSong Community Church officiating. Visitation was held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of services on Monday. Inturnment will take place at a later date at Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens in Tecumseh.
