Josephine (Henson) (Wegner) Humphrey
Josephine (Henson) (Wegner) Humphrey of Owosso, formerly of Tecumseh, died Thursday, April 11, 2013 at her home in Owosso, Mich. She was born July 7, 1923 in Johnson City, Tenn., the daughter of Robert and Mamie Bowman Henson. At a young age the family moved to the Adrian, Michigan area where she attended the public school system and graduated from Adrian High School in the class of 1941. In 1947, she married Melvin L. Wegner of Blissfield and was confirmed into the Lutheran Church, a church she has belonged to all of her adult life. She and Melvin were the parents of two children, David A. (Joyce) Wegner of Adrian and Paul S. (Cecelia) Wegner of Tecumseh and an adopted daughter Jean M. (Gary) Galbraith of Tampa, Fla.After that marriage was dissolved, she married Arlon F. Humphrey and moved to California where she and Arlon were employed in the Aero Space programs until their retirement in 1984 and they relocated in Owosso.Jo is survived by her previous husband and children, one sister Arlene (Ford) Henson, eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six brothers and eight sisters-Dallas, James, Robert, Norman, Charles and Gerald and Anna, Hazel, Dorothy, Frances, Eunice, Margaret, Blanche and Elizabeth.Jo has been an accomplished seamstress and quilt maker. Almost all of her families have enjoyed her efforts in those areas. Jo was active as actress and director with Little Theater Groups in Tecumseh, Mich., and Palmdale, Calif.She now awaits her Master’s voice at Heaven’s Gate of “Well done, My Good and Faithful Servant.”Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 16, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Owosso at 11 a.m. in the morning with Pastor David Woodby officiating, with viewing time of 10 a.m. until the time of service. The church organist Mrs. Ann Ferden provided music for the service.The day following, burial and graveside services took place at 11 a.m. in the morning at the family plot in Ridgeway, Mich.
