Kenneth Eugene Koons

Kenneth Eugene Koons, age 80, of Tecumseh died Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at his home with his family around him.  He was born December 22, 1937 in Peoria, Ill., the son of the late Wilbur and Hazel (Edwards) Koons.  On February 7, 1959 in Clinton, he married Olive “Ollie” Grace and they have shared 59 years together.

Ken retired in 1999 from General Motors in Willow Run after 41 years. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines.  Ken was a member and former chief of the Sand Lake Fire Dept, and a former Tipton Twp. Supervisor.  He was a charter member of the Brooklyn Eagles, joining when they were first established.  He loved golfing and football, but most of all he enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their sport activities.  For years Ken and his wife have done bus trips with Ollie’s Group to several destinations, making many friendships over the years.

Besides his wife, Ollie, he is survived by three daughters, Pamela (Hugh) Melvin of Canton, Shelley (Kent) Freiberger of Onsted and Shirley (Michael) Adams of Napoleon; sister-in-law, Frances Koons of Adrian; six grandchildren, Kenny (Lauren) Melvin of Livonia, Aaron (Alisha) Adams of Saline, Andrew Adams of Caro, Alex Adams of Ada, Ohio, Gregory Freiberger of Canton and Brian Freiberger of Onsted and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

Visitation for Ken will be held on Friday, March 30, 2018 at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Home from 2-8 p.m.  Funeral services will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Handler Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Eric Hickman officiating with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.  Burial will follow in Tipton Cemetery.  Memorial contribution may be made to charity of choice.
