Large murals to add artistic splash to side of Boulevard Market building

The anticipated installation of three murals in downtown Tecumseh on the side of Boulevard Market should take place late this summer, according to Paula Holtz, Tecumseh’s economic development director. The mural project, funded through grants from the Michigan Council of Arts and Cultural Affairs and the Sage Foundation, is an extention of Art Trail Tecumseh, which includes art sculptures located in the downtown area.Over 80 entries were received for the project with two chosen from local artist Pat Bogusz and one from Tyler Witt, a graduate of Tecumseh High School.A nine-member committee, including area artists, members of the Downtown Development Authority and community residents made the selection.“We looked for artistic merit, color, composition and fit,” said Holtz. “We wanted the murals to be visually appealing and have the ability to compliment one another.”The two murals by Bogusz measure approximately 7 feet x 10 feet, while Witt’s mural is 12 feet x 9 feet. The mural project began with a request for submissions in 2013.
