Larry Allen Wittrup

Larry Allen Wittrup, age 75, of Tecumseh, Mich., passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Tecumseh Place surrounded by his family and the loving care of Hospice of Lenawee. He was born June 28, 1941 in Park Rapids, Minn., a son of the late Rev. Allen and Esther Wittrup.

Larry lived in many places throughout the Midwest, while a member of a preacher’s family in the Methodist Church.

He graduated from Birmingham Seaholm High School, attended Adrian College, graduated from Cleary College with a BA in business, and attended University of Michigan Grad School.

Larry worked as a financial manager spanning 43 years for Ann Arbor Bank, Fisher Body of GM, Chrysler Corp., American Chain & Cable and ending with the position of North America Treasurer for Edscha of Germany.

One of the most appreciated accomplishments was the building of an American Chain manufacturing facility in Kentucky on a joint venture with two Japanese companies, as senior VP of the corporation.

After the Corporate life, he served 3-1/2 years on Williamston City Council and  more than 10 years on the planning commission, with other commission duties serving on the boards of the fire department, parks and recreation, and library committee.

He loved to hunt and fish, spending many enjoyable days at the Hiawatha Sportsman’s Club in Engadine, Mich. But his primary love was for golf. He admitted to playing 106 rounds of 18 holes in the summer of 1992. After promising his wife that he would cut back, he only played 94 rounds in 1993. Larry remained an avid golfer until an ankle injury in 2014, sporting two hole-in-one plaques during his career on the links. He also enjoyed Ranger positions at several golf courses in the Williamston area.

On Nov. 6, 1976 Larry married Judith Ann Truesdale and they have shared 40 years together. Along with his wife he is survived by his daughter Diana Robideau of Engadine, Mich.; son Mark (Valerie) Wilson of Tipton, Mich.; a sister, Barbara (Bernard) Cunningham; four grandchildren, Matthew Wilson, Samantha Wilson, Nicole Robideau and Lindsey Robideau; two great-granddaughters, Ava and Sophia Wilson; brother-in-law, Bill Truesdale; nephews, Brian (Amy) Cunningham and Eric (Vanessa) Wittrup and nieces, Rebecca (Frank) Roback and Heather (Larry) Beattie.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Rodger Wittrup, and several aunts and uncles.

At Larry’s request, cremation has taken place. A private service for family and friends will be held at Brookside Cemetery, Tecumseh, Mich. A celebration of Larry’s life will be held on June 28, 2017 at the Wheatfield Golf Club in Williamston, Mich., with time to be announced at a later date.

The family requests memorial contributions in Larry’s name be made to Hospice of Lenawee, Lenawee Co. Humane Society or The First Tee, 425 S. Legacy Trail, St. Augustine, FL 32092.
