Leland “Lee” George Fogelsong
Leland “Lee” George Fogelsong, age 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Tecumseh, surrounded by his family. Born in Blissfield, Mich., on December 19, 1929, the son of the late Victor and Katherine (Thompson) Fogelsong. He married his sweetheart, Roma Lee Sommers on November 24, 1951 in Blissfield and they shared 65 loving years together.
Leland was in the Army Signal Corp. from 1951-1953. He was a licensed contractor and built sixty houses and business places in the Tecumseh area from 1953-1961. Leland, Roma and their family built the building at 214 E. Chicago Blvd., in Tecumseh, where they operated the Kitchen and Fabric Center from 1971-1991. The Sports Hut is located there now. Leland went into sales in 1962 and was currently active in his store in Ridgeway, Mich., until July of this year. He was the first person in the door of McDonalds, seven days per week until this past June. He was a member of the Tecumseh Riverbend Friends Church for over 60 years and attended Covenant Presbyterian Church of Tecumseh. Leland’s hobby was work; he could be seen at his store Monday thru Saturday, until he got sick. He will be truly missed by all who know him.
Leland is survived by his loving wife, Roma; his children, Bruce (Norma) Fogelsong and Deborah (Mike) Feight; his grandchildren, Andrew Fogelsong, Marc Fogelsong, Kaitlin (Marty) Richter, Julia Fogelsong, Elizabeth (Ross) Ormsby and Anne (Bryan) McEldowney; great-grandchildren, Jude Ormsby, Benjamin Ormsby, Jacob McEldowney, A.J. McEldowney and Wyatt McEldowney; and his sister, Phyllis Kohr.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters, Ellen Neuroth and Lucy Brenneman.
Visitation for Leland will be held on Friday, Nov. 4, 2016 at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Home, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral service will be Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016 at Tecumseh Riverbend Friends Church at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mike Dennis and Pastor Richard Mortimer officiating.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Ridgeway Cemetery with full military honors under the auspices of the Tecumseh American Legion Post No. 34 and the Tecumseh VFW Post No. 4187.
