Leslie Allen Kopka

Leslie Allen Kopka, age 65 of Manchester died Thursday, August 10, 2017 at University of Michigan Hospital. He was born December 4, 1951 in Tecumseh the son of Elmen Leslie and Jean Marie (Trinkle) Kopka. Les married Linda Janeway on November 7, 1981 at their home in Manchester and she survives.

Les started his career at Whelan’s John Deere Dealership and worked there for 40 years. He then worked at O’Hara Chrysler in Clinton and later at Golling Chrysler in Chelsea, where he truly enjoyed working and felt at home. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Clinton. Les was an active member of the Clinton Rotary for over 20 years and was Rotarian of the year.  Les loved taking care of the farm and enjoyed mowing and working around the property.  His laboring around the farm provided a beautiful setting for his family to gather for the holidays and other special occasions. He loved his grandchildren and the time they spent together. He was a great man, husband and father who will be greatly missed.

In addition to his wife, Linda, Les is survived by his father, Elmen (Arita) Kopka of Flint; children, Sue Kopka of Adrian, Brett (Emily) Collins of Canton, Gina (David) Green of Saline, and Lori (Lee) Baird of Saline; a sister, Karen (Larry) Bennett of Deckerville, Mich.; his adoring mother-in-law, Louise Janeway; 10 grandchildren, Jamie, Christian, Justin, Sarah, Drew, Katie, Lucas, Lily, Lacie and Thomas; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. 

Les was preceded in death by his mother, Jean, a son, Leslie A. Kopka, Jr. and his father-in-law, Rev. Seal Janeway.

Funeral services for Les were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14, 2017 at the Clinton United Church of Christ with Rev. Diane White officiating. Visitation was held on Sunday from 3-8 p.m. at the Clinton Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. Visitation was also on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Cremation followed the funeral service with burial in Riverside Cemetery at a later date.
