Lev’s Bakery takes ‘best doughnut’ in Ann Arbor web poll
With 20 bakeries in the Ann Arbor area, and more than 7,000 votes cast by doughnut lovers all over Southeast Michigan, Lev’s Bakery of Tecumseh was the clear winner in a poll on mlive. The newspaper’s food and dining writers are on a quest to discover the location for the best doughnut in Michigan.The first step was a people’s choice poll online. Lev’s Bakery was the hands-down winner for the Ann Arbor area, beating out runner-up Dom Bakery in Ypsilanti.“We want to thank our customers,” said Roger DeJonghe “People from all over have told us we have the best doughnuts they have ever tasted.”DeJonghe believes Lev’s reputation in the Ann Arbor area can be attributed to Tecumseh commuters. “A lot of people from Tecumseh commute to Ann Arbor, and take our doughnuts with them,” he said.The next step in mlive’s doughnut quest is for the writers to travel all over the state of Michigan to the winning bakeries to taste doughnuts. The itinerary for their trip across southeastern Michigan on Thursday, March 20, will be published tomorrow by John Gonzalez on annarbor.com.Suggestions for the doughnuts to taste at Lev’s can be submitted to jessicawebster@mlive.com.
