Loah (Lucy) Smith

Loah (Lucy) Smith age 70, of Tipton, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at Hospice of Lenawee’s Hospice Home. She was born January 8, 1943, in Tecumseh to Lauren and LaMora (Keyes) Nichols.She married Jack Smith Sr. on June 26, 1999, and he preceded her in death on September 6, 2012. Lucy had been employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, starting as a clerk/carrier in Tecumseh in 1972. She served as Postmaster in Jasper from 1985 to 1991 and retired as Postmaster of Britton in January 2003. Lucy was a former member of Civitan and in the 1980’s was a volunteer at Call Someone Concerned and the Crisis Center in Adrian. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Tecumseh. She and her husband Jack spent the winters in Gulf Shores, Alabama at the Gulf Breeze RV park where they attended Morgan Chapel Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. They liked to travel and traveled extensively in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. The last few years they enjoyed traveling around the USA in their travel trailer. Their most recent trip was with a RV Caravan to Alaska.She is survived by a son, Robert (Janet) Keller of Tecumseh; a daughter, Stacy (Bryan) Tripp of Tipton; a step-daughter, Paula (Todd) Yates of Pennsylvania; three brothers, Sheldon and Norman Nichols of Texas, and Clark Nichols of Lansing; nine grandchildren, Alicia (Scott) Barnes, Cristy (Brian) Justice, Adam Keller, Travis Keller, Nicole Keller, Jessica Keller, Erica Keller, Chelsea Tripp, and Bryan Tripp; five step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Ann in infancy; husbands, Richard Keller, Rollie Herron; a son Clark Keller in 2005; and a step-son, Jack Smith Jr. in 2006.Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church in Tecumseh with Pastor Phillip Krieger officiating. Cremation followed the service. Visitation was held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, Tecumseh. Visitation was also held at Grace Lutheran Church from 10-10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, followed by the service.Condolences may be sent to the family at www.andersonfuneralservices.com.
