Local ordinances help make city a ‘clean and safe’ place to live

To the Editor,The city council made absolutely the right and just decision to put the chicken proposal on the ballot. In a republic, the majority does rule, otherwise we would have 10 percent of the voters making decisions for all the voters. You live in a city that has a good reputation for being a great place to live. I think this is due to very good leadership and hard working employees. There’s no way voting on this proposal will cost the city $10,000. There is a cost to have an election; however, we incur this cost because we have an election every year.In a city you have different ordinances and rules. They are there for a purpose! Most people agree with these and they make a clean and safe city. No one is denying a minority to raise chickens; they do this by attaining farmland, which has different rules from a city. You may not agree with what the council has decided but please don’t insult their integrity!Neal AdamsTecumseh
