Maria Voorhees

Maria Voorhees, age 20, of Clinton, loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017 at her home. She was born on June 6, 1996 in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of Andrea (Voorhees) Morrow and John E. Perry Jr.

Maria was a graduate of Clinton High School, Class of 2014. She was a student at Wayne State University majoring in engineering where she was also treasurer for the GLBTA Club. Maria was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Wyandotte, Mich. She was brilliant. Maria built computers for family and friends and taught herself book binding. She was an artist, cook, hacker and coder. Maria had grace and strength, was gentle and kind, witty and wise. She will be dearly missed by all who know and love her.

Maria is survived by her mom and step-dad, Andrea and John Morrow of Clinton; her dad, John E. Perry Jr. of Clinton; her brother, David (Kay Curenton) Arlinghaus of Miss.; nieces and nephew, MaryJane, Edwin and Adeline; grandparents, Ruth Perry of Eaton Rapids, Judith Voorhees of Tecumseh, and Ann (Owen) Trahant of New Iberia, La.; uncles, Jeffrey (Cathy) Voorhees, Matthew (Renee) Perry, Robert (Susie) Morrow; girlfriend, Meryl Jaskowski and many extended family.

She was preceded in death by her two grandfathers, Robert R. Voorhees and John Perry Sr., her uncle, Robert J. Voorhees and her aunts, Suellen Whaley and Jeanine Perry.

A Memorial Gathering for Maria will be held on Friday, Feb. 10, 2017 at the Clinton Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes from 6-8 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017 at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 2803 First St., Wyandotte, MI., 48192 at 11 a.m.

Memorial contributions in honor of Maria may be made to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church for a scholarship in Maria’s name.
