Marilyn Jean Gibson

Marilyn Jean Gibson, age 80, of Tecumseh passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012.She was born Oct. 10, 1931, the daughter of Russell and Catherine (Labert) Babcock. On Nov. 22, 1958, she married Harold Gibson in Macon; he preceded her in death in 1976.Marilyn, with her husband, owned and operated Macon Golf Course. She was a 1949 graduate of Dundee High School; after graduation Marilyn went to work for Tecumseh Products. She then married Harold Gibson and they set out to build a golf course and pro shop on their property. She later opened and operated an additional pro shop in Ann Arbor until she retired. In retirement, she worked 10 years at the Tecumseh Credit Union and several years with her son, John Gibson, in his business. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, golf, and, especially, her grandchildren. Marilyn and her granddaughter, Eliza, had been talking about a trip up north to some places she visited as a child for almost two years. Two weeks before Marilyn passed, they took that trip. Marilyn so enjoyed the trip that she took, and her daughter and grandson Ricky will treasure it for a lifetime.Survivors include two sons, John (Susan) Gibson of Tecumseh and William (Maryam) Gibson of Takoma Park, Md.; two daughters, Gail (Johnny) Hart of Tecumseh and Annalee “Lee” (Sherri Haring) Gibson of Delaware, Ohio; 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several step-grandchildren and step-great- grandchildren; and several special nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Frances Toburen and Elizabeth Showers.Family and friends celebrated Marilyn’s life Saturday, July 21, in Luther Hall at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 108 Brown St., Tecumseh. Her cremated remains were later buried at Ridgeway Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lenawee County Department on Aging/Home care.
