Mary Lander Wilson
A graveside memorial service was held on September 21, 2012 at the Taftsville Cemetery for Mary Lander Wilson, 85, who died September 15 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. The Rev. Norman MacLeod of Saint James Episcopal Church presided.Mary is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert; her children, Charles, of Taftsville, VT. and Anne Cannon, of Pasadena, Calif.; her sister, Dorothy Lincoln, of Tecumseh, Mich.Mary was born October 16, 1926 in Chicago, Ill. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Ohio Wesleyan University with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish. Her early married life took her to Massachusetts and Michigan, before settling for a time in New Jersey. In 1964 she embarked upon an adventure of living, and traveling, overseas, before settling in Quechee in 2002. Her husband Bob’s work took the family to Buenos Aires, Argentina; London, England; and Madrid, Spain.Mary will be remembered for her love of travel. During her life she traveled extensively in South America and Europe. Mary and Bob also toured Africa and China. Mary loved life overseas, meeting and making new friends wherever the family settled.She will also be remembered for her expertise in the kitchen. She was an accomplished cook, and loved to prepare regional cuisines she encountered during her life abroad.Upon Bob’s retirement, Mary purchased land and oversaw the building of a house on the Mediterranean coast in Altea, Spain, where they lived for 25 years, surrounded by countless friends Mary welcomed into their lives, traveling, entertaining, and visited by a steady stream of family and friends from stateside. It was the good life, and Mary knew how to share it with others. She will be missed and remembered by many people all over the world.
